:: BEACHES

Festooned with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, India’s coast is full of endless stretches of golden sand and palm-fringed coves. India offers the visitor the perfect seaside holiday.

TAMILNADU

Mahabalipuram : Arjuna's penance, a huge whaleback shaped rock containing figures of

gods, demigods, men, beasts and birds, the tiger’s cave (an open air theatre) and the shore temple adorn this serene and calm beach of the state

Marina Beach :This beach is counted among one of the longest beaches in Asia. Its 12-km long stretch was made beautiful by the wonderful facelift given by Governor Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff in the early 1880's, and is a major tourist attraction today. Marina beach is located on the eastern side of Chennai, adjoining the Bay of Bengal. Bathing and swimming can be dangerous, as the undercurrent is very strong. In the evenings, the beach is virtually a fair ground with various kinds of entertainment and food stalls lining the beach. With its natural sandy beauty and spacious promenade and beautiful gardens, the beach is a major attraction for tourists visiting Chennai

Kanyakumari Beach : At the southern most tip of India, where the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal meet, lies Kanyakumari ,famous for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
With long stretches of sands of many hues, the beach offers a welcome change. The seashore is rocky and dangerous, and there is a manmade wall running along it. There is also a lighthouse from where one can get a panoramic view. Prime Attractions of Kanyakumari Beach are :The Sangam (the meeting point of the three major bodies of water, the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.) , Vivekananda's Rock (a huge stone rising out of the sea, on which Swami Vivekananda is said to have meditated.)

KERALA

The Kovalam Beach : An al time favorite tourist spot Kovalam consists of three adjacent crescent-shaped beaches. The southernmost, known as the Lighthouse Beach, is the most popular. Kovalam offers accommodation options to suit all budgets.

The Varkala Beach : Varkala is a seaside resort and spa with high precipices full of rich mineral springs that rise splendidly from the coastline. A 2000 year old Temple and a Nature Care Center are the two main attractions here.

The Cherai Beach :This lovely beach bordering Vypeen island is ideal for swimming. A typical Kerala village with paddy fields and coconut groves nearby is an added attraction of this beach. Vypeen island, connected to the mainland by a bridge, is more easily accessible by boat. The ferry ride over the backwaters takes just 30 minutes. Even dolphins are spotted here occasionally.

Murudeshwar : Amidst pleasant surroundings Murudeshwar offers, an out -of -this -world view of the sea from the hill by the shore. The beautiful and the clean beach is largely undiscovered and un spoilt.

Mangalore : Adorned by casuarinas groves, the silvery beaches of Mangalore is again a must visit place in Karnataka.

KARNATKA

Mangalore is the gateway to the beaches of Karnataka. The Suratkal, Maravanthe, Bhatkal, Murudeswara, Gokarna and Karwar are the major beaches of Karnataka. The pleasant climate and enchanting evening scenarios make the beaches in Karnataka a memorable experience to be pocketed while on a tour to India. The 320 kilometers long coastline, dotted with numerous beaches beckon you to move away from the maddening grind of urban life. The unspoilt charm of the blue green waters, the simple coastal folk, and their delectable cuisine is simply overwhelming.

Rishikonda Beach : A yellow, unspoiled beach, washed by the sun-warmed sea, Rishikonda is ideal for swimmers, water skiers, and wind surfers.

Bheemunipatnam Beach : located at the mouth of the river Gosthani which was once a Dutch settlement, the ruins of a fort and cemetery are still intact. The beach is very safe for swimmers. The journey between Visakhapatnam to Bheemunipatnam is a bracing one.

Manginapudi Beach : Manginapudi deserves its importance partly from its scenic beauty and partly from being a historic port city. The beach possesses a natural bay and comparatively shallow and safe waters. A beautifully laid park with a fountain enhances its repute as a place for leisure.

Mypad Beach : a fine sandy beach. A determined sea lover will find it stunningly appealing with lush green vegetation providing an enchanting backdrop to the sunny sands.

GOA

Anjuna Beach: Anjuna, 18 kms from Panaji is a popular beach area adjacent to Chapora fort- it was the haunt of the flower generation in the sixties - and is still popular with the younger generation.

Calangute Beach: Calangute is the beach to which everyone heads for the moment they land in Goa. So it is natural that it is overcrowded in both in peak and off seasons.

Dona Paula Beach: 7 kms from Panaji. An idyllic picturesque spot. Command a fine view of the Zuari river and Mormugao Harbour. Water scootering facilities are available here.
