:: KERALA - HOME

Kerala is an intriguing montage of cultures -- bucolic, captivating, history-laden and ethnically rich. 33 million people in 39,000 sq km of a narrow strip of land between the Western Ghats and the beaches of the Arabian Sea, a paradise that’s green and serene -- that’s Kerala clinging to the southwestern coast of the Indian peninsula. Kerala is a treasure house of infinite beauty. She offers you an amazing

feast of nature and wildlife. The entire state is bathed in verdant glory with lush plantations and luxuriant forests. Rice fields, mango trees, cashew nut trees and coconut palms dominate the landscape. The Western Ghats, with their dense tropical forests, misty peaks, extensive ridges and ravines assert that Kerala is no doubt God's favorite territory.

The ethnic diversity and rich cultural heritage manifests itself in the form of varieties of religious architecture: ancient Hindu temples with copper-clad roofs and murals, gable-roofed Islamic mosques and colonial Portuguese rococo churches. Successful blending of various cultures gives the state a cosmopolitan outlook.

A whole array of festivals with mysterious rituals adds color and zest to the whole environment. Exotic handicrafts and lip smacking seafood preparations add towards making Kerala one of the most exciting destinations of India.

Possessing the phenomenal aspect of total literacy and a tangible splendor, the state is chock a bloc with places that attract tourists and travelers from all over the world. Snake-boat races on the backwaters of Kerala, Elephant March with hundreds of bejeweled elephants lined up, the martial arts, Kathakali - the spectacular dance drama; Kerala Houseboats on the backwaters and Ayurvedic Treatments are among the various riveting vistas that Kerala offers.
