| The origin of journalism in this
district can be traced back to 1880. The Kerala Pathrika
is likely to be the earliest newspaper published from
Kozhikode. Keralam, Kerala Sanchari & Bharath Vilasam
are among the other newspapers published from Kozhikode
before 1893. The number of dailies published from Kozhikode
district at present is 15. They are all published from
Kozhikode city. These dailies are Chandrika, Kozhikode
Times, Deshabhimani, Indian Express, Janayugam, Keralakaumudi,
Malayala Manorama, Mathrubhumi, Madhyaman, Mangalam,
Malabar Express, News Kerala, Pradeepam, Rashtra deepika & Siraj.
Nearly all news agencies' other major newspapers
published from outside the district are represented
in Kozhikode. A considerable number of weeklies,
forthnightlies & monthlies are published from
here.

The Kozhikode station of the All India Radio was
commissioned on 14th May,1950 & it has 2 transmitters-KozhikodeA
of 10 kilowatt power & KozhikodeB (Vividh Bharathi)
of 1 kilowatt power.
A television transmitter has been functioning in
Kozhikode from 3rd July,1984 relaying programs from
Delhi & Thiruvananthapuram Doordarshan. Besides,
cable TV network & satellite television are also
available in many parts of the district.
