Traveling is a mesmerising experience and can indeed become a memorable one if certain guidelines are kept in mind.
All foreign nationals have to pay their hotel bills in foreign currency only, in cash or travelers checks or credit cards. However, Indian rupees are accepted if supported by a proof of encashment in India of foreign currency or traveler's checks.· Concessional - tickets like Indrail Pass, Youth Fares, Discover India Fares and Air- fares are to be paid for in foreign exchange only. Do not purchase air/ rail/ bus tickets through strangers or unauthorised travel agents/ tour operators. Do not hire any type of transportation from unlicensed or unapproved operators. While shopping, sightseeing or going to and from transportation terminals avoid touts and brokers. Be aware of unscruplous shopkeepers, if you feel abused do not hesitate to consult the proper authorities. Taxi and auto-rickshaw fares keep changing, therefore, they do not always confirm to readings on meters. To avoid confusion, insist on seeing the latest fare chart available with Taxi / auto-rickshaw drivers and pay accordingly.

Apart from these there are few other tips that a good traveler must take into account:
Travel is a passage through other people's lives and other people's places. Be prepared to accept other cultures. Choose the location of visit responsibly. Plan your visit properly. Be aware of the holidays & festivals. Support local enterprise. Be respectful and observant. Limit deforestation. Plant saplings. Do not dispose non-biodegradable waste. · Keep local water clean. Respect local culture.

Foreign nationals visiting India should get themselves registered at their respective High Commissions. · Tourists should acknowledge the potential for politically motivated violence and terrorist activity by militant groups, including possible attacks against national institutions and public transport within major cities and religious sites, festivals and events frequented by westerners. Tourists should take account of the state of relations between India and Pakistan. Although there has been some improvement in India-Pakistan relations since the high tensions of 2002, the situation remains unpredictable. There are communal tensions in some parts of the country which can sometimes lead to violent incidents which can lead to social unrest. Tourists should carry sufficient cash in order to ensure safety .Tourists should not carry cash more than their need. Foreign tourists are subject to local law. A violation of local laws may result in a jail sentence, served in a local prison. Advice on particular requirements can be sought from the Indian Mission in the closest city. Visa conditions are subject to change. For up-to-date visa information,the tourists are required to contact nearest official branch of the Indian High Commission.
